Hello, Reader!

Hello, readers, and welcome to my journal, In the Margins, a space where I hope to discuss what the western genre has come to be, and what we’d like its future to look like. Personally I have a strong belief that the western genre is changing with the times and that the characters I’m interested in writing about – traditionally marginalized characters for the western frontier setting, with special emphasis on those from the LGBTQ community – do have a place in it.

I believe what makes me unique as a writer is first and foremost that drive to tell western stories through the eyes of the genre’s most ignored characters. That goal has come to mean a lot to me in my work. More than anything else I want to tell authentically western stories, paying respect to the tropes and even some clichés of the genre, while giving voice to the characters traditionally sidelined by them. I like to think I have a unique way of balancing grit and intimacy within my stories and within my characters themselves. Intricately character-driven plots are what I take a special pride in creating, and I truly hope that if you’ve found this webpage and journal, you’ll keep checking back in and adding your voice to the discussion.
